A member from the Bicol Rescue Corpse (BRC) and a Director of the Red Cross Safety Services, Camarines Sur Chapter in the person of Mr. Romulo V. Cordez Jr. together with CSPC-RCYC Adviser, Mr. Alvin Franco A. Agtarap discussed about Basic Rope Rescue and Ropemanship in a half-day orientation and two days training of the Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges-Red Cross Youth Council last July 21-22, 2011 at the Food Service Management building.

Described as first ever in CSPC history, CSPCEANS had witnessed the Ascend and Descend of forty (40) participants composed of instructors, RCYC officers and Committees in the said activity.

On July 20, 2:00 in the afternoon, the orientation for the Basic Rope Rescue and Ropemanship was held at the Nursing Arts Laboratory.  Included in the orientation was the introduction of the ropes which is going to be utilized, familiarization of the equipments and knot-tying, concepts and terms that must be understood, importance of  rope rescue and situations or cases where in a trained individual must apply his/her skills on rope rescue.

After the 2 hour orientation, the trainers demonstrated the proper position and technique during descending a high altitude building. After which, the participants were divided in two groups and were assigned a particular day for the actual training on ascending and descending a building with the use of a rope.

July 21 was the scheduled training for the first group composed of 20 members and July 22 for the second group with the remaining 20 members. The Ascend and Descend performed by the participants was held at the food Laboratory building having two floors. Two ropes were anchored side by side where in 10 members each will ascend on the first rope and the other 10 members along the side will descend. Descending can be made by 3 ways: jump, walk, and free-fall. Ascending using the rope requires skills and familiarization of knot-tying. Participants were required to wear protective gears such as gloves, helmet, elbow pad and kneepad in cases of potential injuries and falls.

All participants were able to ascend and descend on the 2nd floor-building and fortunately no cases of injury were reported. The training ended successfully with the release of certificates to the participants of the Basic Rope Rescue and Ropemanship.
