The first batch of the compulsory training for all 4th years nursing students of the college was conducted last June 2-5, 2011 at the CSPC Seminar Hall. The said training was a subject requirement for Disaster Nursing Course with Mr. Alvin Franco A. Agtarap as the subject instructor.
There were a total of 85 students from 4 sections (A, B, C, D) who participated in the said training. The participants were divided into 2 groups. The first group was composed of sections A and B, whereas the second group was composed of sections C and D, which have 42 and 43 members respectively.
The first schedule for the first day (June 2, 2011) of the training proper was registration and attendance, which started from 8 am and ended at 10 am. A small opening program was prepared by the program committee with Ms. Danica Benvenida as the Committee Chairman. The program elapsed from 10 am to 12 noon. A brief greeting from Ms. Loraine Rada marked the beginning of the program. It was followed with a prayer lead by Ms. Maritoni Odavar and the singing of the National Anthem lead by Ms. Catherine Rivera. Opening remarks and welcome address were delivered by Mr. Rodel Notorio. This was followed with the introductions of the facilitators by Mr. Kristoffer Keith Beridico, introduction of the advisers by Mr. Karl Chester Intia, and the introduction of trainers by Mr. Alvin Franco Agtarap. After the brief introduction, the leveling of participants followed. Shortly, the participants were asked to voice out their expectations and rate themselves. Last on the list were the Introduction of Basic Disaster Course and its objectives.
After lunch break, from 1 pm to 3 pm, Module one was discussed, which tackled about the Red Cross Movement and the Rights and Duties of the Medical personnel in International Humanitarian Law. After the lecture on Module 1, from 3 to 5:30 in the afternoon, they took up Module 2, which highlights the Introduction to Philippine Disaster Vulnerabilities, its Management and their Connection to the Climate Change.
At the end of every training day, the participants were asked to return the evaluation form they answered earlier where they expressed their opinions about the training efficiency from their own point of view.
Second day, June 3, 2011, after the participants signed up their daily attendance, they continued discussing Module 2 until 12 noon. They presented their outputs, in the form of a poster, to portray their views about disasters.
After the lunch break, from 1-2 pm, they tackled Module 3, which was about the Health Effects of Disaster and the Health Care Services. Module 4 followed suit, which discussed about the Role of Nurses in Disaster and Nursing Process in Caring for Disaster Victims. The usual evaluation sheets were collected before the participants were allowed to sign out at the end of the day.
During the third day (June 4, 2011) Module 5, which was about the Overview on Public Health in Emergencies/Communicable Diseases, Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Food Security and Nutrition in Emergencies, were discussed. The discussion finished at 12 noon before the participants were allowed to take their lunch break. Afternoon of the third day tacked the Psychological Impact of Disaster and the Critical Incident Stress Management, and the Management of Mass Casualties, which were the topics in Module 6 and 7, taken from 1-3 and 3-5:30 pm respectively.
During the morning session of the final day, June 5, 2011, Module 8 was discussed. It was about the Standard Operating Procedures and Executive Orders. The afternoon session was started with the Diagnostic Examinations followed by the simulation activity, wherein the participants were given a scenario where they have to apply the theory they learned in the whole lecture. The closing program started at 4 in the afternoon, and finished at 5:30. It was in that juncture where the trainers were given the token of appreciation. The program committee also gave a small presentation of the pictures taken during the whole training process.
The Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges – Red Cross Youth Council (CSPC-RCYC) will be the foremost humanitarian organization
in the college and in the community, in services provided and number of people served. As it brings timely, effective and
compassionate humanitarian assistance for the most vulnerable without consideration of nationality, race, creed, gender,
social status or political belief. It also has a vision of training each and every students of CSPC by Red Cross Standards
and Principles in order to promote the spirit of humanitarianism, sense of leadership, moral character and camaraderie.
CRCY-CSPC (Nabua) Council MISSION
To educate the students in the spirit of RED CROSS and provide the opportunities for directing their energy and harnessing
their idealism into worthwhile activities within the frame of the organization.
CRCY-CSPC (Nabua) Council OBJECTIVES
General
To develop among the youth the spirit of humanitarianism and social service by giving them opportunities to participate in
relevant Red Cross activities within the framework of the organization.
Specific
1. To provide priority services of the Philippine Red Cross to the college and to the community as the case may need.
2. To develop sense of leadership among students.
3. To help people in need without any service fee.
4. To promote physical, intellectual and social well-being of the students.
5. To develop cooperation and sense of responsibility and camaraderie among members of CSPC-RCYC.
6. To work towards values, information and character building.
7. To promote service and solidarity.
8. To uphold the protection of life and the promotion of health.
9. To promote national and international friendship.
10. To disseminate the Red Cross ideals and International Humanitarian Law.
THE RED CROSS YOUTH PLEDGE
As a youth member of the premiere humanitarian organization, I pledge to alleviate human suffering, protect life and dignity,
to be a responsible citizen of the Republic of the Philippines, to conform with the objectives and policies of the Philippine
